THE SCIENCE BOOK: Everything You Need to Know About the World and How It Works
Comprehensive, Authoritative, Lavishly Illustrated Exploration of All Things Scientific
When I was a kid there were always plenty of books around. One book in particular, a science book filled with all sorts of items related to science was one that I would go back to again and again, and not because I had to either. It was just interesting. I didn’t think they published such things in this day and age.
That’s why I am very happy to see National Geographic has published just that sort of book. I’ve seen it and already it’s one of those books that once I pick it up, I could be reading some of its hundreds and hundreds of articles. You name it and you will find out about it somewhere in the 420 pages of the book, and nothing terribly long either, just nice concise, easy to understand explanations of the topics. Of course being a National Geographic publication, you just know it’s richly illustrated.
Do look for this book, especially if you have school children, you won’t be disappointed.
Here’s more about the book and what you can find inside it from the pro’s. All I can tell you is this book is worth every penny:
Building on the success of “The Knowledge Book” and “Visual History of the World,” National Geographic presents THE SCIENCE BOOK: Everything You Need to Know About the World and How It Works (National Geographic Books, ISBN: 978-1-4262-0337-4, Oct. 21, 2008, $35 hardcover), an affordable, comprehensive compendium of cutting-edge scientific information perfect for inquisitive minds of every age.
This engaging family reference, encompassing centuries of scientific thought in one richly illustrated volume, is general enough for the casual browser, yet sufficiently in-depth and wide-ranging for the serious science buff or student. Natural phenomena, revolutionary inventions and the most up-to-date investigations are explained in detailed text and illustrated with 2,000 vivid images, including 3-D graphics, pictograms and two eight-page gatefold spreads.
Six major sections, ranging from the universe and planet Earth to biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, cover everything from microscopic life to nuclear power. Topical subjects such as climate change and genetic engineering are given particular attention. Innovative organization allows for quick retrieval of information, while numerous fact boxes and cross-references emphasize the many links among modern scientific fields. Visual elements make even the most involved discussions easy to understand.
