If you didn’t see it, you missed it. The Friday morning meteor shower, Quadrantid, was out of this world. At least that is what I was told. You snooze, you lose. And that’s what I was doing. There were over 100 sparkling asteroids an hour streaming in the darkened sky. Speaking of asteroids and meteorites scientists have lessened the chance of one those rogue rocks hitting us to a 3.6 percent chance. That makes me sleep better at night and probably why I missed Quadrantids.
Now challenging the Energizer Bunny the two Rover robots on Mars are celebrating their fourth year roaming the red planet. Quite a feat since scientists thought they would only last 90 days. Spirit and Opportunity are working overtime sending back over 210,000 pictures and traveling over 11.8 miles giving us secrets and information nobody would have ever dreamed possible.
2008 is the year of the jet pack; yes that very Jetson’s like flying pack you strap on your back and fly above the masses. Just when you almost forgot about them they are back and real and only going to get better since there is competition in the arena. They will go on sale this year for about $200,000 dollars by two companies, Jet Pack International and Tam Rocket Belt. It’s not like you will be flying far with these space age fantasies, they can only carry fuel enough for about nine minutes or about 11 miles. They can get up to about 83 miles and hour and elevate to about 250 feet. When you buy them the companies train you and then you’re cut loose to travel into the wild blue yonder.
Finally, in the true sense of everything is its opposite, some Spanish scientists bucking the trend of all those Big Bang guys have come full circle in the time and space continuum debate. Instead of going along with the status quo, that space is traveling outward towards who knows what or into who knows what, they theorize that what is actually happening is that time is slowing down causing the mind to think space is moving away or something like that. It makes a great deal of sense and I can find no trouble with time ticking to a halt many millions of years from now. Everything just stops and the there is nothing but silence like dying in your sleep.
